Humble beginnings,
ambitious plans.
In 1979, Doug Ford crafted fine furniture and cabinetry in a single car garage for just a handful of clients. They grew to appreciate his eye for detail so much, they persuaded him to take on bigger and bigger projects, and that's when DD Ford Construction began.
Doug majored in Industrial Arts with an emphasis in Fine Woodworking at Cal State Long Beach. He built furniture and cabinets on the side to help pay his way through college and framed houses for a local builder over the summer. After getting his B.A. and earning his Journeyman Carpenter designation, Doug moved to Santa Barbara to teach but soon left to work for a general contractor. It wasn't long before he became his own tradesman and started building cabinets and furniture in his single car garage. His meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship created such a big demand for his skills, he eventually got his general contractors license and, after 10 years, was employing 10 people. Today, DD Ford employs over 40 highly skilled people who are dedicated in continuing Doug's original vision…building the finest homes possible, from beginning to end.
